Headquartered in Louisville, KY, Chrysalis seeks to partner with management teams across Mid-America to build businesses with enduring value through technology and active collaboration. Chrysalis manages over $400 million and has invested in more than 70 companies during its 25-year history.
Chrysalis partners with talented management teams by providing the business intelligence, market knowledge, deep resources, technological expertise and financial discipline that are critical to success. We take a direct, straightforward approach in our work and our relationships, challenging ourselves and management teams to exceed expectations and deliver superior results.
On behalf of our portfolio companies, we leverage a network of high-value relationships built over the firm’s 25-year history that extends across industries and geographic regions. This network is a ready resource for everything from building new customer relationships to sourcing the best talent and advisors.
Our principals sit on many boards and are in regular contact with strategic partners and co-investors, as well as industry experts, executives and directors of public and private companies who provide industry insight.
Supplementing the Chrysalis team is a network of successful entrepreneurs- or executives-in-residence (EIRs) who have been attracted to work with the team to help diligence opportunities, work on their next project or consult with Chrysalis portfolio companies. Many serve on boards of our portfolio companies, although this is not a requirement.
We are not day-to-day managers, but we are engaged and active collaborators who hold ourselves accountable and always want to be management’s first call for help and strategic advice.
Before investing, we work with management teams to develop strategies for optimizing the business with technology and growing through acquisition. We commit to be active participants in realizing those strategies once we invest.
Focus on Building Enduring Value
Chrysalis partners with management teams who want to focus on growing their business and building lasting value – not financially engineer it for a quick flip to another owner. Our structure allows us to be more flexible than traditional institutional investors and not be driven by fund life to seek liquidity events. While we will not ignore attractive offers to sell the businesses in which we invest, our focus is on building long-term value and cash flow.
“Chrysalis” refers to the stage of a butterfly’s development when growth and transformation occur. Similarly, Chrysalis identifies companies with great potential; surrounds them with the capital, advice, networking and recruiting help they need to grow; and helps them spread their wings as they emerge as thriving businesses.
