A former vice president on CNN’s digital team is the new leader of a tech company in Nashville, Tenn.
KC Estenson has been named the new CEO of GoNoodle, a kids media and technology company that creates videos about being active for kids, teachers and parents. Estenson will lead the company’s day-to-day operations and “accelerate awareness within households worldwide as well as forge strategic partnerships for GoNoodle,” according to a company news release. Co-founder and former CEO Scott McQuigg will join the company’s board of directors.
Estenson, who earned his Master’s in education at Harvard University, served as senior vice president and GM of CNN Digital from 2008-2014, according to his LinkedIn profile. GoNoodle said that usage of CNN’s Digital Products more than quadrupled and the profitability of the business more than doubled during that time.
Prior to CNN, Estenson spent nearly a decade with The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS) as part of the ABC Family digital team.
“KC’s extensive experience with two of the largest and most well-known media companies will be instrumental in the development and execution of making GoNoodle a household name,” McQuigg said in the news release.
GoNoodle said it is available in more than 185 countries and is used by 14 million kids at school and home each month.
Recode reports that GoNoodle’s software is free but that it generates revenue via underwriting deals from health care companies like HealthNet and licensing/ad deals from entertainment companies.
